We are continuing our mission of partnering with parents and providing supplemental educational services …because we all know that school is simply not enough. Our classes are designed to provide transformative, academic experiences for youth in Grades 6 – 12. Our unique formula allows for remediation as well as acceleration of skills, based on the individual needs of the student. For this reason, our classes are kept small with only 10 students per class. Each student is assessed, co-creates a plan for success based on the assessment, and then works that plan over the course of 8 weeks. Results have been phenomenal!

California ranks 45th in 8th grade math. In 2009, black and brown students scored 39 and 33 points lower than white students. This gap “was not significantly different from that in 1990.” These statistics represent the crisis that youth of color are having in math and education. There is a math-competency epidemic in US K-12 education that must be promptly addressed. (Nat’l Center for Education Statistics, 2009)

All students taking ASA's "Math Skills & Confidence" or “Back to School Boot Camp” get ALEKS for $50 and the Parent Training is included in your enrollment free of charge! (Best deal & strategy for your child’s success.)

If you would like to have ALEKS for your child without the workshop, the pricing is as follows:

$80 for ONE child's year-long subscription & Parent Training

$150 for TWO children's year-long subscriptions & Parent Training

$200 for THREE children's year-long subscriptions & Parent Training

“BACK TO SCHOOL BOOT CAMP!” supports your child in refreshing those skills necessary for academic success.

Over the course of the week, your child will get support in:
• math (this includes an ALEKS account if he/she doesn't already have one)
• essay writing
• study skills
• organization strategies
• academic technology training
• empowerment strategies via “Man Up!” or “Urban Flowers”©
NOTE: Special Transitional Support strategies & workshops will be given to rising 6th & 9th Graders.

Your child will also get a bonus experience of the workshop “Why It's Cool To Be Smart!” so they will have a positive “back to school” attitudinal adjustment and get their minds and spirits geared up for academic success. Students will leave the week ready to excel in school all year!

ASA's got a summer special for you! We are providing this “boot camp” intensive for only $375! There are only 20 spaces, so don't wait! You want some more sugar on that? If you register before July 15, reduce the cost to $350. You may also reserve your child's spot with a non-refundable deposit of $100, before or after July 15 (the early bird discount is still honored before July 15). If your child needs ALEKS, then we've got to charge you an additional $50. Sorry. (There is a bright side: your child will get math support for one full year for only $50 instead of the regular rate of $80!) If you were to take these courses independently over 8 sessions, you would invest over $1,000.

“Personal Statement College Essay Camp”
For Seniors! (10 students max!)
1 Week only - August 2nd - 6th from 12 PM to 3 PM

This camp is designed to provide writing support outside of school for graduating seniors who are pursuing college after high school. By the end of one week session, your senior will have this essay completed. What makes this essay so special? The Personal Statement essay is required by UC schools and many private colleges. Further, it’s not just your average essay; this essay must be finely crated to expose a major life theme and resiliency of a student. This is the essay that says, “Hey look at me! I’m who you want!”

Why start this essay now? The Senior college-going process happens simultaneously with regular senior classes. Because of this, the process is emotionally and physically taxing on seniors who want to stay focused on doing well in their current classes, as well as completing the college application process. Further, by offering the program beginning in the summer, students who are inclined to “be ahead of the game” are able to take advantage of this program and not wait until the overload of senior year. On top of all of that, teachers must focus on teaching and rarely have time to commit to making each senior’s essay spectacular. They just don’t have the time. This camp alleviates that and provides a positive arena of support for seniors to get what they need to get to college.

Even after completing this essay, each senior will receive two free drop-in sessions for any additional college-going support until June 2011!
